Sunlight filtering through a dense green forest, with the words “writing from the heart.”

writing from the heart.

Writing from the heart.

When you sit down and do it, it’s actually quite easy.
You just have to be connected to it.

That’s the hard part.

Our daily lives are so busy these days with notifications, distractions, desires, quick fixes and instant gratification.

So many things that disconnect us from our heart.

But our heart is where we can truly know ourselves.
Our heart is where we can connect deeply to what we want.
Our heart is where we can open ourselves up to all the depths of feelings we have inside of us and meet them with love, kindness and compassion.

Journalling is how I do this.

The act of putting pen to paper is like a meditation.
The external world disappears.
It’s just me, my journal and my heart.
No filtering what I’m saying.

Pouring out my feelings exactly as they are.

The grief, the sadness, the hope.

The desire for something greater.

It’s a conversation with my past self, my present self and my future self all at the same time.
It’s a conversation towards getting us all on the same page.
Working together towards a unified goal.

At least, that’s what journalling was for me this morning.

My present self feeling the grief for my past self.
My future self trying to will us along towards hope and away from despair.

Unlike what the world tries to tell us, there’s no quick fix for our emotions.
There’s distractions, but not quick fixes.

Our emotions deserve spaciousness to be seen, heard and, most importantly, felt.

So, as I write this to you, I am feeling my emotions.

They’re raw and heavy.
But I’m graciously holding them, loving them, caring for them.

They’re just my past self.
And my past self is just me.

Living a more mindful life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
It’s about meeting the parts of ourselves that need us.

And sometimes that’s hard.

And sometimes that’s slow.

But I promise you:
It’s how you live a life that’s true to you and not the life of someone else.
